How To Pray

How should I pray and what should I pray for?

A: You can pray for anyone, anything and about any situation you may find yourself in.

It is best to pray to God in your own words. There is no right or wrong way to pray and the most important thing is to pray with honesty and sincerity.

God has given us an example of a prayer in Matthew 6:9-13. It is known as the Lord's prayer. God gave us examples of the "ingredients" of a prayer - worship, trust in God, requests, confession, protection, etc.

The Word of God is full of accounts describing the power of prayer in various situations. The power of prayer has

  • overcome enemies (Psalm 6:9-10),

  • conquered death (2 Kings 4:3-36),

  • brought healing (James 5:14-15) and

  • defeated demons (Mark 9:29).

God, through prayer, opens eyes, changes hearts, heals wounds, and grants wisdom (James 1:5). The power of prayer should never be underestimated because it draws on the glory and might of the infinitely powerful God of the universe.

How to Pray - The Lord's PrayerThe Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen.
